The project seeks to evaluate the impact of the "Paulista Aberta" [Carfree Paulista] program in the local urban vitality of Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo (SP). The research is developed by a team constituted by LABMOB in partnership with ITDP Brasil, Bike Anjo, and Corrida Amiga, and has the support of the Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS). The project started in July 2018 and the results are expected to be released in March 2019.

Using economic, environmental and behavioral indicators, the research will collect secondary and primary data to estimate the effects of the intervention through the impact assessment methodology. The study starts from the hypothesis that open streets increase urban vitality and the quality of life in that place. The impact assessment for the "Paulista Aberta" will make possible to estimate evidence of the results of this program. In addition, the results of this evaluation may contribute to the continuous qualification of the program, as well as to support decision making so that other streets and avenues in São Paulo (and other Brazilian cities) might be elected as a policy object similar to this one .
